The Cessna 560 (Citation V, Citation Ultra, Citation Encore) is a light twinjet with a straight wing and Pratt & Whitney Canada turbofan engines. Cessna announced the construction of the Model 560 Citation V in 1987. With a longer fuselage and more powerful engines, the V is a development of the S/II. It was a well-known member of the Citation family, which began with the Fanjet 500.
Most major airlines were flying between large cities for commercial flights in the mid-1960s, leaving most airports underutilized.
Because there were so many new enterprises in rural regions, Cessna perceived a gap between twin-engine turboprops and low-cost corporate business jets and decided to enter the bizjet market with the Fanjet 500, which became the foundation for the Citation line of business jets.
The Cessna Citation V (Cessna 560) was unveiled at the annual National Business Aircraft Association meeting in September 1987. The Citation V (Cessna 560) was conceived as a development of the S/II, with a cabin that was 18 feet long, 20 inches longer than the S/II. The plane’s two Pratt & Whitney JT15D-5 turbofan engines delivered 2,900 pounds of takeoff thrust each.
With the extra 800 pounds of power, the plane could cruise at 427 knots and reach a ceiling of 45,000 feet. An eight-passenger configuration, radar, Honeywell autopilot, thrust reversers, a flight guidance system, and two exterior luggage compartments were all standard features.
The supercritical wing, adopted from the Citation S/II but with a redesigned leading edge to provide a place for a new de-icing system, was the cause for the Citation V’s (Cessna 560) appeal.
In the transonic speed range, the supercritical airfoil Cessna Citation V (Cessna 560) was developed to minimize the wave drag. This wing reduces drag and improves aircraft efficiency by delaying shockwaves during transonic flights.
Cessna continued to improve the Cessna 560 throughout time, introducing additional models such as the Cessna Model 560 Citation Ultra, Model 560 Citation Encore, Model 560 Citation Encore+, and various military variants. Model 560 aircraft are the last Citation jets that were certified based on the Model 500 type certificate.
Cessna 560 Specifications
Cessna Citation V (Cessna 560) was based on the popular Citation II design, as previously stated. The Citation V is 20 inches longer than the II or S/II, and it has seven cabin windows per side, compared to the II’s six. One of the characteristics used as a supercritical straight-wing derived from the Citation II, which is one of the reasons for these aircraft’ appeal.

The cockpit of Citation V is significantly more modern than that of the Citation II on which it was built. The Honeywell Primus 1000 EFIS glass cockpit is featured on the Citation V. The Primus 1000 Integrated Avionics System is a horizontal and vertical flight guiding system featuring a fail-safe autopilot/flight director and display.
All radio guiding modes, long-range navigation system tracking modes, and air data vertical modes are covered by this. The autopilot may be connected to either flight director. Embraer and Bombardier planes also featured the Primus 1000 system. The Cessna V makes an appearance in the cockpit.
On the captain’s side, the Citation V included a typical two-tube electronic flight instrument system. A five-tube configuration with co-pilot glass and a central multifunction display was available as an option. A Honeywell GNS-X flight management system is used in conjunction with Honeywell’s SPZ-500 flight director/autopilot.

Cessna 560 Performance and Handling
